Scholarships for emerging scholars will grow talent and excellence

Federation Congratulates Recipients of Latest Round of SSHRC Funding

Ottawa, September 3, 2010 - Over $190 million in new grant and scholarship funding will support almost 4,000 of Canada's research community members. Revealing a continued commitment to emerging scholars, SSHRC's announcement included over 2,000 scholarships and fellowships for masters and doctoral students, and for postdoctoral fellows.

"Our disciplines foster innovation and creativity across sectors, and these scholarships will open the door for a new generation of talent and excellence to tackle today's complex issues," said Noreen Golfman, President of the Canadian Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences. 

Aboriginal education, youth and digital media, and knowledge sharing in rural economies are just a few of the world-class research funded as a result of these grants.

"We would like to extend congratulations to all recipients, confident that their endeavours will strengthen our research capacity and bolster an already-strong international reputation held by Canada's social science and humanities research community."
