Dr Noreen Golfman, CFHSS president, is pleased to announce the appointment of Jean-Marc Mangin as the Federation's new executive director, effective March 8th, 2010.
"Mr. Mangin is a seasoned executive who has held leadership positions in civil society, the Canadian Government and the UN," said Dr. Golfman. "The Federation will benefit from his extensive experience in building wide-ranging international and Canadian partnerships, and in bridging interdisciplinary research and public policy to better understand and address today's complex issues. We are pleased to welcome him to our team."
In accepting the appointment, Mr. Mangin said: "For more than 20 years, I have witnessed incredibly difficult situations ranging from genocide and civil wars to climate change and extreme poverty. I have come to rely on Canada's scholars and social scientists to bring meaning, understanding and concrete policy innovation. As Executive Director of the Federation, I aim to better connect the amazing wealth of research and knowledge that exists across this country with partners in Canada and abroad. In strengthening these partnerships, notably with the Government of Canada, the Federation is well positioned for creating real synergies for the promotion of the public good and prosperity. "
Mr. Mangin previously held the positions of executive director of CUSO and, most recently, of first executive director of the Global Campaign for Climate Action, a cross sector civil society initiative bringing together over 250 international organizations and networks in support of transformational change and rapid action to avoid the worst impacts of climate change.
Mr. Mangin has lived for nearly 10 years in Asia and Africa. Born in Manitoba, raised in Quebec, educated in BC and Ontario, Jean-Marc Mangin holds a M.A. in Political Sciences and Environmental Studies from the University of Toronto.
