Launch of the International Research Initiative on Adaptation to Climate Change
November 24, 2009

The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council is pleased to announce the launch of the International Research Initiative on Adaptation to Climate Change (IRIACC). This new initiative is a joint partnership involving SSHRC, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), and the International Research Development Centre (IDRC) who, as the project lead, will be receiving and processing all applications submitted to this program.

These granting councils along with IDRC recognized that adaptation to climate change is a shared challenge that presents unique opportunities for collaborative and comparative research to advance knowledge, shape policy and programs, mentor students and facilitate networks.

Specifically, the IRIACC will support the formation of multinational teams from Canada and from low and middle income countries, who will develop networks and programs of research. Successful applicants will initiate interdisciplinary and multisectoral collaborations with researchers, communities, practitioners and policy-makers in Canada and around the globe.
