Appointment Notice
The Canadian Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences is pleased to announce the appointments of Denise Rudnicki as Director of Public Affairs and Marie-Paule Ravary as Director of Administration and Human Resources.
“We are extremely fortunate to have Denise and Marie-Paule join us,” said Jody Ciufo, Executive Director of CFHSS. “They will both play a strong and direct role in leading the Federation in its efforts to support and advance Canada’s research in the humanities and social sciences; disciplines which are intrinsically important to the development of social, cultural and economic understanding. I very much look forward to working with both of them.”
Ms. Rudnicki brings more than two decades of experience as a journalist and communications executive to the Federation. She was a national affairs correspondent, host, producer and reporter for both CBC Radio and TV in newsrooms across Canada. Before joining the Federation Ms. Rudnicki taught in the Journalism program at Carleton University. Previous to that she was the Director of Communications for the federal Minister of Justice.
As Director of Public Affairs, Ms. Rudnicki’s responsibilities will include project and program development, the development of public policy, community and stakeholder relations, and the management of the Federation’s communications and media relations.
Ms. Ravary is replacing Irene Sullivan who retired at the end of June. She comes to the Federation after nine years working for the Cornwall and Area Housing Corporation, a non-profit organization that owns and manages 1,500 rent geared to income residential units. She spent four years as the manager of finance and administration before being promoted to General Manager of the corporation. A Certified General Accountant since 2003, Ms. Ravary is a longstanding member of the Board of Directors for Caisse populaire de la Vallée and the President of their Audit and Ethics Committee.
As Director of Administration and Human Resources, Ms. Ravary is responsible for the administrative oversight of the office, the accounting and financial reporting, human resources functions, and IT needs. A member of the Senior Management Team, the Director will also be involved with the annual audit; budget oversight and coordination; developing financial, HR and administrative policies and procedures; and regulatory reporting.
The Canadian Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences represents 66 scholarly associations, 69 universities and colleges, and over 50,000 researchers, practitioners and graduate students. The Federation works to communicate the value of research and scholarship in the human sciences. It also manages the permanent secretariat of the Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences, which is the largest academic gathering of its kind in North America.
