Humanities Project

The Federation launched an initiative to address the needs of humanities research. The initiative examined how research in the humanities can benefit from medium and large-scale project support, including strategic program support where feasible. Equity clearly exists in the SRG program, but there are concerns about larger projects, including for example editorial projects.

Using comprehensive statistics and data on all SSHRC programs as the foundation of the report, the Federation looked at:

  • how research in the humanities differs from the social sciences in nature, methodology and results;
  • ways that SSHRC, along with CFI and others, could structure support for these projects; and
  • how to challenge the humanities community to develop significant research projects in fields that place or strengthen Canada as a world leader.
