From advocacy to addressing issues that impact the future of its members, the Federation activities aim at strengthening Canada’s social sciences and humanities community and at showing the value and importance of research in these disciplines.

Big Thinking– Challenge, Inspire, Transform

Organized by the Federation, Big Thinking is a speaker series featuring research and scholarly work in the social sciences and the humanities and its impact on society.

Advocacy

As the voice of Canada’s research and learing community in the social sciences and humanities, the Federation actively represents the interest sof researchers and graduate students to top federal decision- and policy-makers.

Policy Work

The Federation provides leadership and works to address professional issues that impact of the future of Canada’s social sciences and humanities community. At present, the Federation has identified three priority areas where work is conducted under the leadership of a vice-president. They are Equity, Copyright and Open access.

Aid to Scholarly Publications Program

On SSHRC's behalf, the Federation administers the Aid to Scholarly Publications Program. Each year, about 190 publications are supported through this program.

Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences

The annual Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences is the premiere destination for Canada’s scholarly community, bringing together thousands of scholars, students, practitioners and policy makers.
